Ive probably got a couple of examples......... but the basics are, up the ISO, use low powered, bounced flash (if you have to use flash). Put it +/- 1 stop and you should get at least one that's useful. You may have to do a bit of work in post processing to bring up the shadows and lower the highlights. but at least this way you get a much closer starting point. In many cases the photo became underexposed or overexposed as you said. You can get better results by chanching the metering to "Spot metering". But if your camera don't have such a thing, you can "fix" the photos with a simple trick: See which areas are more - white or dark. The next thing you have to do is to set the exposure of the camera to -1 if the white objects are more, or +1 if the dark objects are more. Take a test shot. See the result. If it's too dark, increase the exposure. If it's too bright - decrease it. I hope I was helpful. Try it and share the result with us. I know it request a lot of playing with camera, but when you get the idea you'll be very pleased with the result. I have a good digital camera, definitely not high-end, but it does the trick.. I also have two frisky troublesome all black kittens, which im having a hard time snapping good photos of.. any tips on getting good photos of black cats? i have pretty good natural lighting in my house but under artificial light, the photos turn out either whited out or too dark.... thanks!
